IPA President Buğra Gökce reveals the cost of the Instagram decision: 'The ban is impoverishing Turkey'
IPA President Buğra Gökce calculated the cost of the Instagram shutdown to Turkey and shared it on his social media account. In his post, Gökce asked, "Looking at the data, we ask this: Was this penalty given to Instagram, or was it given to Turkey?"
Istanbul Planning Agency (IPA) President Buğra Gökce has announced the daily cost to Turkey of the access ban imposed on Instagram by the BTK.
Making a statement on the matter via his social media account, Gökce pointed out that the daily cost of Instagram remaining closed to the Turkish economy is 1.9 billion lira.
Stating that the ban will most affect the economies of Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa, and Antalya, Gökce said, "The total size of the 'Public Savings Package' was 100 billion lira. If Instagram remains closed for just 52 days, Turkey will suffer a loss equal to the savings package. The ban imposed on Instagram will most affect the economies of Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa, and Antalya."
'WAS THE PENALTY FOR INSTAGRAM OR TURKEY?'
Evaluating the data, Gökce made the following assessment:
"Looking at the data, we ask this: Was this penalty given to Instagram, or was it given to Turkey? As the access ban on Instagram continues, the Turkish economy is being harmed, Turkish companies are making fewer sales, and businesses in Turkey are suffering losses. In this era, it is only our people who pay the price for steps taken without measurement, without deliberation, and in an unlawful manner. The Instagram ban is impoverishing Turkey every day."
