İsmail Saymaz's 'election' commentary on bridge and highway privatization

Journalist İsmail Saymaz evaluated the discussions regarding the privatization of bridges and highways. Saymaz argued that this step is intended to create public resources ahead of the elections.

Appearing as a guest on the "Günaydın Türkiyem" program hosted by İsmail Küçükkaya on Sözcü TV, Saymaz stated that the privatization plan did not come to the agenda "without a reason." Saymaz stated, "Bridges and highways are not being privatized because Erdoğan is giving them up for no reason. They are being targeted for privatization precisely because there is a reason. And that reason is to create resources."

Stating that the revenue to be generated could be used for support programs for low-income groups during the election process, Saymaz said that support provided to retirees, housewives, and workers could be aimed at reducing voter backlash.

Saymaz said, "He looks and sees we are going into an election. Let's at least provide some relief until election day to the low-income earners who caused us to lose the previous election. Let's provide some support to retirees, housewives, and perhaps workers. So they don't go and vote for the opposition in protest."
