It had come to the agenda along with Öcalan... Will there be a general amnesty? AKP's Güler explains

AKP Parliamentary Group Chairman Abdullah Güler made important assessments regarding the current agenda during the Anatolian Conversations meeting. Stating that a new process has begun in the fight against terrorism, Güler said there is a positive atmosphere for the resolution of one of Turkey's most important issues.

'GENERAL AMNESTY IS NOT ON THE AGENDA'

Güler also responded to public claims regarding house arrest and a general amnesty for Abdullah Öcalan. Abdullah Güler said, "A topic such as a general amnesty is not on our agenda right now. The President already has the authority to grant amnesty for sick and needy prisoners. However, it would not be right to tie the process to specific conditions." He also emphasized that this process should not be tied to a calendar.

NO REQUEST FOR A MEETING WITH THE PRESIDENT  

Expressing that the DEM delegation did not request a meeting with President Erdoğan, Güler said, "A positive exchange of views was held within a relationship of mutual trust. The atmosphere is very positive. We see a strong will for this major issue of Turkey to be resolved as of 2025," he said.

NEW CONSTITUTION AND SOCIAL MEDIA REGULATION 

Stating that it is wrong to tie the new constitution efforts to the process, Güler said, "Constitutional amendment should be a common topic for all political parties. This need cannot be postponed for the future of our country."

Making statements regarding social media regulation, Güler stated that they are working on restrictions for the safety of children. Güler continued his words as follows:

"Our Ministries of Family, Justice, and Interior are examining practices in developed countries. Access restrictions for certain age groups may come to the agenda" 

'BUDGET BALANCE WILL BE PROTECTED'

Touching on the issue of additional raises for civil servants and retirees, Güler emphasized the importance of budget balance. "The figures to be given in our budget are clear. To be able to give more, revenues need to be increased. The revenues we collect through taxes are used in many areas such as health expenditures and infrastructure projects," he said.

Stating that foreign powers and intelligence organizations might want to disrupt the process during the fight against terrorism, Güler said, "Our state's security units are ready against such attempts."
