İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener: 'Just to be difficult'

İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener, while visiting shopkeepers in Ankara’s Altındağ district, responded to a citizen who mentioned they would be voting in Etimesgut by saying, “I definitely want Etimesgut. Just to be difficult.”

İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener visited shopkeepers in the historic Hamamönü neighborhood of the Altındağ district as part of the March 31 Local Administration General Elections campaign.

During her visit, Akşener did not neglect to chat with citizens in the area as well as the shopkeepers, and she did not turn down requests from people wanting to take photos with her.

Akşener stated during her visit that banners prepared by the İYİ Party Amasya Provincial Presidency as part of election activities were removed following a decision by the Central District Election Board due to objections, saying, The AK Party’s District Presidency applied to the provincial election board. Even though our representatives and those of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) said ‘no,’ a decision was made to take down these banners. The very interesting criteria used is this: ‘inciting the public to hatred and enmity and threatening.’ We are threatening the mighty ruling power. When we look at all of this, the picture that emerges is that they are targeting the İYİ Party, which set out to be your voice. If we want to get rid of these oddities, pull their ears from the left and the right in this local election,” she said.

During her visit, Akşener also chatted with citizens sitting in nearby businesses and stated that they were seeking the votes of the citizens.

During the conversation, Akşener told a citizen who mentioned they would be voting in Etimesgut, “I definitely want Etimesgut. Just to be difficult.”
