İYİ Party denies allegations regarding Fatih Akşener

İYİ Party Organization President and Istanbul Deputy Buğra Kavuncu has responded to allegations regarding Fatih Akşener, the son of İYİ Party Chairwoman Meral Akşener. İYİ Party Sakarya Deputy Ümit Dikbayır had claimed that Fatih Akşener, despite holding no official position within the party, was an influential figure who interfered in the party's internal affairs.

Buğra Kavuncu stated the following in a post on his X account:

“I must make a statement due to the allegations that have come to the agenda in recent days, which have been distorted by certain circles and are now understood to aim at harming our party. On January 11, 2023, I was appointed by our Chairwoman, Ms. Meral Akşener, as the ‘Chief Advisor to the Chairman Responsible for the Election Campaign.’ In other words, I managed our party's campaign for the elections held on May 14, 2023.

"10 SEPARATE UNITS WERE CREATED. I COORDINATED THESE 10 SEPARATE UNITS"

However, since election campaigns are both very broad and require expertise, 10 separate units were created, including the ‘Data Unit’ under the responsibility of Mr. Birol Aydemir and the ‘Policy Unit’ under the responsibility of Mr. Ümit Özlale, which dealt with our election manifesto and included our executives, experts, and professionals. I coordinated these 10 separate units. All units and their work were carried out within a framework that was completely transparent, participatory, open, and based on mutual coordination.

"ALL ALLEGATIONS ARE UNTRUE"

The campaign's visual communication process, in particular, was carried out by an internal team who were also party members, as they were more familiar with the party's dynamics. In this process, Fatih Akşener, like many of our other volunteers, provided support to the visual communication efforts in the campaign, entirely on a voluntary basis and solely to provide an outside perspective. Apart from this, all allegations about him in the media are untrue.

"WE MUST ALL BE AWARE OF THIS RESPONSIBILITY AND FOCUS ON THE STRUGGLE WE ARE WAGING FOR A FREE AND INDEPENDENT POLITICAL ORDER"

The reason I felt the need to make this statement today is that many false perceptions are being brought to the agenda repeatedly, despite the extremely clear and concrete statements I made about the election campaign in many live broadcasts I participated in before the election. No one, absolutely no one, is more valuable than the existence of this party, which was built with labor and sweat, and its workers, and they never will be. We have a responsibility to our citizens who voted for us or did not, and who have legitimate concerns about our country. Ignoring Turkey's problems and drowning in agendas that most citizens do not care about, and occupying the public's attention, is disrespectful to our nation. We must all be aware of this responsibility and focus on the struggle we are waging for a free and independent political order.”
