İYİ Party figure recalls 2017 MHP convention! 'Erdoğan took it from our hands and returned it to Devlet Bey'
İYİ Party Deputy Chairman Mehmet Tolga Akalın stated in a speech in Tekirdağ, "We took the MHP, but Tayyip Erdoğan took it from our hands and returned it to Devlet Bey."
Mehmet Tolga Akalın, the İYİ Party Deputy Chairman responsible for Migration Policies, who decided to enter the local elections 'free and independent', made striking statements.
Akalın shared a video on his X (Twitter) account of a speech he gave at his party's launch meeting in Tekirdağ on March 10.
Recalling the MHP's 2017 extraordinary convention and the subsequent judicial process, Akalın said that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan handed the MHP over to Devlet Bahçeli.
Stating that Erdoğan maintains his power by designing the opposition, Akalın spoke as follows:
"Turkish nationalists first waged a massive political struggle within the MHP. It was the greatest democratic struggle in the history of Turkish politics. We took the MHP, but Tayyip Erdoğan took it from our hands and returned it to Devlet Bey. Why? Erdoğan is not a knight or a hero; he is an opportunist. Erdoğan is a political leader who can maintain his power by regulating his opposition."
