İYİ Party Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Group Deputy Chair Suat Sarı resigns: 'The Movement of the Brave has been interrupted'

İYİ Party IMM Group Deputy Chair Suat Sarı announced his resignation on X.

In his post, Sarı stated, "I have seen that very valuable concepts such as education and merit, which are constantly voiced in the public sphere, are not very valid within our party."

Sarı noted the following in his statement:

CRITICISM OF MERIT

"In 2017, we set out with great goals alongside my 'brave-hearted' friends under the leadership of our Chairwoman, Ms. Meral Akşener. In this journey, which I began as the Founding Istanbul Provincial Vice Chair, our goal was to transform the Turkish homeland into a productive, just, free, and independent institutional system through the management capability of Turkish nationalists...

To achieve this goal, I have worked hard until today with my fellow travelers who were both in the party administration and served as council members in the Kağıthane Municipality and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. By adhering to party discipline, we achieved great successes that contributed to our country and our nation.

In addition to my 10 years of experience as an executive bureaucrat at the IMM and 25 years of experience as a senior executive in the private sector, I served as my party's group spokesperson and group deputy chair as a council member at the IMM. During my tenure as a council member, I constantly produced work, submitted dozens of motions, and tried to share the reports I created in commissions on behalf of my party from the IMM podiums and in written and visual media.

My greatest support in my work has been my experience in the public and private sectors and my merit. As a Turkish nationalist, a Turkish citizen, and above all, a child of the great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, I am extremely happy and proud of this...

However; at the point reached, I have seen that very valuable concepts such as education and merit, which are constantly voiced in the public sphere, are not very valid within our party. I have witnessed that the method of determining candidates to be shown both in the parliamentary nomination polls and in the local government elections to be held on March 31, 2024, is contrary to the values, principles, and policies of the İYİ Party. As a result, we were faced with the resignation of thousands of 'Brave Hearts' due to these wrong policies implemented by a narrow circle and the decisions taken subsequently.

For this reason, since I have understood that I cannot be useful to my country and my nation under this roof, I am resigning from my İYİ Party membership and my position as the İYİ Party Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Group Deputy Chair...

I will continue to serve the Great Turkish Nation with the same determination and belief as always.

İYİ PARTY'S GROUP IN THE IMM HAS COLLAPSED

In the IMM Assembly, there were 176 AKP members, 118 CHP members, 9 İYİ Party members, 5 MHP members, and 3 independent members.

Following the resignation of former İYİ Party Group Deputy Chair İbrahim Özkan and his fellow members, Sarı had become the İYİ Party's IMM Group Deputy Chair.

Following Sarı's resignation from both the party and his deputy chairmanship, the İYİ Party group in the IMM has collapsed.
