Phone call from İYİ Party leader Dervişoğlu to the Mayor whose attire was targeted
İYİ Party Secretary General Osman Ertürk Özel announced that Mehmet Emin Korkmaz has been referred to the disciplinary board with a request for expulsion regarding the insults directed at Zeynep Güneş. İYİ Party leader Müsavat Dervişoğlu stated that he will visit Güneş.
The insults directed at Mihalgazi Mayor Zeynep Güneş of Eskişehir over her attire have drawn widespread backlash. İYİ Party Secretary General Osman Ertürk Özel reacted strongly to the comments made on social media by İYİ Party member Mehmet Emin Korkmaz regarding Zeynep Güneş, which stated: "Look at the Mayor of Eskişehir/Mihalgazi! Is the duty of this political Islamist woman in shalwar to manage a district, or to milk cows in her barn? The poor woman must have lost her way; this is what suits the AKP."
While Korkmaz was arrested following his insulting post, the İYİ Party has referred him to the disciplinary board.
EXPULSION REQUEST FOR KORKMAZ FROM İYİ PARTY
İYİ Party Secretary General Osman Ertürk Özel announced that Mehmet Emin Korkmaz has been referred to the disciplinary board with a request for his permanent expulsion from the İYİ Party.
Özel stated, "Trying to humiliate people based on their clothing choices is an indecency that only despicable people would commit. Turkish women, who gained the right to vote and be elected as a great Republican achievement alongside Atatürk, can govern the world regardless of what clothing they choose to wear." Özel emphasized that the İYİ Party's stance is firmly against such humiliations.
SUPPORT FOR GÜNEŞ FROM DERVİŞOĞLU
İYİ Party leader Müsavat Dervişoğlu stated that he spoke with Zeynep Güneş over the phone and expressed his support for her. Describing the indecency directed at Güneş as a despicable attitude toward sacred values, Dervişoğlu said, "The power of the Turkish woman is enough to govern the world; she herself decides how she will govern." Dervişoğlu announced that he will visit Zeynep Güneş at her office in the Mihalgazi Municipality on Thursday.
Dervişoğlu emphasized that as the İYİ Party, they always defend the power of the Turkish woman and that no one can interfere with how she dresses or what she does.
