İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu made statements regarding the current agenda.
Responding to questions from Deniz Bayramoğlu on Halk TV, Dervişoğlu gave important messages regarding presidential candidacy and the opposition's search for a joint candidate.
"IF THE NATION PLACES A RESPONSIBILITY, WE WILL NOT SHY AWAY"
Dervişoğlu responded to the question, "Will you be a presidential candidate?" by stating that discussions held over names whose candidacies have not been finalized have led to various consequences in the past.
Recalling that he had previously issued warnings regarding Ekrem İmamoğlu's candidacy, Dervişoğlu said:
"We have experienced the consequences of presenting someone as a 'candidate' before the candidate themselves has announced their candidacy. We experienced it in the Ekrem İmamoğlu case, for example. I had spoken out then, too, and issued various warnings.
Now, everywhere I am asked questions, in every program I appear on: 'Will you be a candidate?' I mean, if the nation places a responsibility on our shoulders, we will not shy away from that responsibility. I have said this many times, but what needs to be done right now is to get rid of this system and this way of implementation."
EMPHASIS ON 50+1 FOR A JOINT CANDIDATE
Stating that there is no election calendar yet, Dervişoğlu expressed that political parties have different options before them.
Noting that parties could enter elections with separate candidates or that some parties could form alliances, Dervişoğlu said that the option of a joint candidate could also come to the agenda because the presidential election requires 50+1 votes.
"THERE ARE CANDIDATE PROFILES THAT CAN BE AGREED UPON"
Expressing that there are names the opposition could reach a consensus on, Dervişoğlu stated that he acts carefully in his statements due to the concern that debates conducted over their candidacies could harm those individuals.
Dervişoğlu spoke as follows:
"There are candidate profiles in Turkey that can be agreed upon and reached a consensus on. Those candidates, of course, also have their own strategies. I am obliged to weigh my words carefully, acting out of the concern that speculations brought to life over the names of those candidates will harm those personalities."
