İYİ Party leader Müsavat Dervişoğlu responds to journalist's 'Sinan Ateş' question with 'ulterior motive' remark: 'You can even fight...'

İYİ Party held an evaluation camp in Afyonkarahisar on July 13-14 with the participation of its deputies and GİK members under the theme "We are reborn every day." İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu met with members of the press at a breakfast held on the second day of the camp and answered their questions.

Stating that past mistakes were evaluated and self-criticism was made, Dervişoğlu evaluated the camp process as follows:

'THE SITUATION IN İYİ PARTY IS QUITE GOOD'

"Everyone criticized themselves, criticized their mistakes. We discussed that the decisions were wrong by evaluating the political consequences of the decisions we made. Everything is not perfect in terms of the İYİ Party. The important thing is to be able to ensure that these are pronounced and discussed in a comfortable environment. There were also criticisms regarding myself. I do not get involved in some events because I am too traditionalist. That is, especially in matters like resignations, I do not tell anyone 'don't do it, don't act.' Because I do not believe that resentment will end by reconciling people in politics. You will create a climate of tolerance where there will be no resentment so that you can prevent this. What the chairmen of political parties need to do is to make the environment that could lead to people being resentful of each other correct. I observed that we do not have too many problems, that is, in those meetings. When viewed from the outside, there is a perception as if there is constant debate within the İYİ Party. The situation is quite good. We discussed that the resignations did not affect us. We determined that there is no room for concern about the future of the party due to these resignations."

"I WAS NOT AFFECTED BY THE RESIGNATIONS AT ALL'

Dervişoğlu answered the question regarding the party organization's expectations of him and whether the resignations in the İYİ Party affected the party members as follows:

"They said that I should be in the field constantly and that it would be more beneficial in the field. They expressed that we should not waste time with small issues. From the moment the Turkish Grand National Assembly goes on recess, our deputies will both rest and work in their electoral districts for a while. After that, they will hit the roads of Anatolia. Since the day we arrived, we have been forced to drown in discussions as if there were very important things. The İYİ Party has been dealing with such things since the day it was founded. It has been dealing with attacks. We could not make ourselves liked by a part of the media. I said that I was not affected by the resignations. My friends were not affected at all either. These things happen in politics. New ones may also happen. If people emerge who do not fulfill the requirements of their responsibilities and do not carry that responsibility, I can ask for their resignations regardless of their titles, without leaving them an opportunity. We have experienced events that could be considered traumatic in the period we left behind. We are already a new party, and we have a lot of work to do in terms of belonging."

BURAK AKBURAK STATEMENT

Dervişoğlu also said regarding the fact that Konya Deputy Ünal Karaman and Istanbul Deputy Burak Akburak did not attend the camp, "Mr. Ünal's roof collapsed in Artvin due to the rains. He went there and informed us. Mr. Burak Akburak did not state any excuse for not attending this camp. Furthermore, I am watching him, he does not attend group meetings either. Therefore, I will assign my friends to ensure they meet with them."

'I CANNOT SAY THAT I AM NOT SADDENED BY KORAY AYDIN'S RESIGNATION'

Dervişoğlu evaluated the resignation of former İYİ Party Founders' Board member and Ankara Deputy Koray Aydın as follows:

"I distinguish Mr. Koray's resignation from other resignations. Mr. Koray is the founder of the party. One of the two hundred founders. Also the founding organization chairman. Therefore, it would be a lie if I said I was not saddened by his resignation. We have experienced such things that we cannot act emotionally by looking at these small issues. We have gone through some periods that we should not forget. I am of the opinion that that period should be understood correctly and that care should be taken while doing some things for the sake of that period. That is why I cannot say that I am not saddened by Mr. Koray's resignation. Of course, one is saddened by all resignations. In the end, they resign from your party and cause you to question yourself. While I strive not to say the slightest word behind them, some friends say big words while resigning."

'YOU WILL SEE AN İYİ PARTY IN THE FIELD'

Stating that they are on the rise in the polls of research companies, Dervişoğlu said that his recognition among citizens is low, but this is not a disadvantage for him. Dervişoğlu also stated that if they introduce themselves correctly, a completely different picture could emerge.

Dervişoğlu answered the question regarding his party's work in the field and the economic problems in the country as follows:

"You will see an İYİ Party in the field, you will see an İYİ Party aspiring to power. You will see an İYİ Party that continues on its way in line with its founding settings. You will see an İYİ Party that has compensated for the areas of weakness that have formed in the period we left behind. You will see an İYİ Party that has met with the nation. You will see an İYİ Party that seeks the rights of the rightful against injustice and acts in the interests of the country. Since the day we were founded, we have distinguished ourselves by our feature of being a political party that defends the rights and laws of disadvantaged groups. Even if you have dealt with students one day, workers another day, farmers another day, retirees another day, and widows and orphans another day, and everyone involved in politics did this, we still cannot ensure that those troubles and areas of weakness are covered up. Turkey is in a very bad situation. To get Turkey out of this bad situation and bring it together with the bright horizons of tomorrow, Turkey needs to change its mindset. The government also needs to change this mindset. The main reason for economic problems is the lack of law and justice in this country. Once you cannot eliminate the mistakes in the field of law and justice, no matter what you change in the economy, it does not matter. Only indicators and statistics change. Otherwise, purchasing power does not change."

EARLY ELECTION

Stating that he finds the early election discussions speculative, Dervişoğlu said, "Turkey has held three elections in one year. There is also a state of weariness in the citizen now, but the way to ensure the solution of problems in democracies is of course to put the ballot box in front of the citizen, but I find these discussions speculative in such a process. When you want an early election, you need to bring it to the agenda immediately. I see those developments as checks cut to a maturity or long-term promissory notes."

RELATIONS WITH SYRIA

Stating that they have prepared a migration doctrine regarding the refugee problem in Turkey, that the demographic structure is negatively affected, and a plan for the refugees to be sent within 3 years, Dervişoğlu said the following:

"Turkey needs to get rid of and be saved from the refugee plague. I say that Mr. President's desire to meet with Assad is a delayed situation. The first to propose this is the İYİ Party. We have stated many times that relations should be established with the Syrian government in terms of solving this problem. But now it has been brought to the agenda by the government. While these negativities are being experienced, one should also look carefully at what is happening in that region. We are no longer facing a problem that can be solved with ordinary and personal relationship-based meetings. We are facing a bigger problem. There are also many refugees living in Turkey. These also negatively affect Turkey's demographic structure. We also have a process plan for this. It is possible to take steps that will lead to Turkey getting rid of the refugee plague within a three-year time frame."

'ULTERIOR MOTIVE' REACTION TO SİNAN ATEŞ QUESTION

Dervişoğlu answered the question “Will the case reach the MHP? Will it be solved if this case reaches the MHP?” regarding the judicial process that started on July 1 concerning the murder of former Ülkü Ocakları Chairman Sinan Ateş, who was assassinated on December 30, 2022, as follows:

“I have no answer. Now there is a case being heard. We are also following that court process. Wherever a case being heard reaches, it is reached, wherever it is solved, it happens. If I had directed this question to you, what kind of answer would you have given? Would it be saved if it reached? If it reaches… Let them reach it then.”

Underlining that he wants to talk to journalists about the future, not the past, Dervişoğlu said, “When you ask me a question about the future, I struggle, for example. Talking about yesterday is easy for a politician, and it is easy for a journalist. I say ‘Let’s not take the easy way out, let’s talk about the difficult one.’”

'YOU KNOW I AM TRADITIONALIST'

After other questions, Dervişoğlu returned to the question about the Sinan Ateş murder case reaching the MHP. Stating that Turkey is going for the worse and that its problems should be discussed, Dervişoğlu continued as follows:

“Now my friend is asking. He knows that I came from the MHP. He knows that I was the Chairman of the Ülkü Ocakları. He knows that I went to court with the Chairmen of the Ülkü Ocakları. He is asking from there, ‘Would it be solved if the end of this business reached the MHP?’ Do you see Sinan Ateş’s death as an exercise accident? You also know that I am extremely sensitive about this issue, right? You also know that I am traditionalist. What will you get out of this? I am not questioning your ulterior motive. Nothing useful will come out of it.”

Dervişoğlu was also asked about the meeting of former İYİ Party Chairman Meral Akşener with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which Koray Aydın also drew attention to while resigning from the party and for which he expected an explanation from the party management. However, Dervişoğlu replied, “One should ask the addressees, I have no need to make a statement on this matter.”
