İYİ Party mayor resigns!

In the İYİ Party, which held an extraordinary congress after the local elections where Müsavat Dervişoğlu was elected chairman, the news of resignations shows no signs of stopping.

Hayrettin Özdemir, who was elected Mayor of Horasan from the İYİ Party in the March 31 Local Elections, has resigned from his party. According to reports by Yeniçağ, it was learned that Özdemir, who was rumored in political circles to have had 'coordination problems' with the provincial presidency and local organizations following the elections, has resigned from his party. 

It was noted that Horasan Mayor Hayrettin Özdemir, who traveled to Ankara to submit his resignation to the party's headquarters, intends to continue his term as an 'independent' mayor.

Özdemir, who paid a congratulatory visit to Müsavat Dervişoğlu, who was elected Chairman of the İYİ Party on May 9, had presented a tile-embroidered plate with the Horasan Municipality logo, saying, “Our most important and primary congratulations go to our esteemed Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu. Mr. Dervişoğlu is a very precious and valuable name for us. May it be auspicious for the İYİ Party community, for Turkey, and for the Turkish nation. I congratulate our esteemed Chairman, who has provided significant services regarding Turkey's issues, and wish him the best. I sincerely believe that he will perform this duty worthily with his knowledge, background, and experience, and I wish him success.”

WHO IS HAYRETTİN ÖZDEMİR?

Horasan Mayor Hayrettin Özdemir has been involved in the tourism and travel management sector in his business life. He completed his military service between 1989 and 1990. Özdemir, who was a mayoral candidate for the Horasan district of Erzurum for the 2024 local government elections, was elected Mayor of Horasan by receiving 32 percent of the vote. Mayor Özdemir received his certificate of election from the Horasan District Election Board Chair, Halime Görgülü Yemez.
