İYİ Party Mustafakemalpaşa District Chair resigns

Tevfik Demir, who has served as the İYİ Party Mustafakemalpaşa District Chair for approximately 2 years, has announced his resignation from both his position as chair and his party membership.

Stating that the party has lost its founding purpose and enthusiasm, Demir said, "We were saddened that the district chair and the board of directors were treated as 'non-existent' during the candidate selection and municipal council member determination processes prior to the March 31 local elections."

In his resignation statement made via his social media account, Demir included the following remarks:

"As of today, I have resigned from my position as the elected İYİ Party Mustafakemalpaşa District Chair, a role I have held since October 25, 2017, and served in for the last two terms, as well as from my membership in the İYİ Party. I had been considering resigning for some time. However, I waited for the election process and the general congress process to be completed so that the party would not be harmed. I believe that I, along with my team, performed our opposition duties worthily as the İYİ Party District Chair over this 4.5-year period. However, at this point, I have seen that it is time to 'step aside' on the path shown by our people.

What happened before the March 31 local elections showed me that I needed to make this decision. Despite our selfless service to this party, the fact that the district chair and the board of directors were treated as 'non-existent' during the candidate selection and municipal council member determination processes prior to the March 31 local elections saddened us deeply. Although I should have resigned that day, I postponed this decision until after the election so that the party would not be harmed during the election period.

I postponed this decision until today, thinking it would not be ethical to announce it during the general congress process, which was initiated by a decision taken by the party after the election. Despite all the impossibilities and the lack of any financial or moral support, my board of directors and I did our best, and even more, to carry out the local election efforts. However, it is known to everyone that the party has been losing blood at the high-level, provincial, and district levels over the last year. This was reflected in the ballot box in Mustafakemalpaşa, as it was across all of Turkey in the March 31 local elections."

Stating that it is evident the party has lost its founding purpose and enthusiasm, Demir said, "Nevertheless, if there is a failure to be discussed, we are ready to take responsibility for it. Let no one have any doubt that I will continue to serve our district from whatever platform I may be on from now on."
