İYİ Party provincial administration collapses due to resignations

The İYİ Party Trabzon Provincial Presidency administration has collapsed due to the resignation of many members.

Following the resignation of Yomra Mayor Mustafa Bıyık from his party, a press conference was held at the Provincial Presidency in Trabzon. Stating that she has resigned from her position as Provincial Chair, Fatma Başkan noted that the strategy implemented by their party in the 2023-2024 elections was not successful, saying, "Especially the language and rhetoric used against the opposition during the local elections caused criticism and suspicion among the voters. The İYİ Party's votes melted away day by day. We were aware of where the process was heading, but in order not to harm our party, we implemented the decisions taken by the headquarters even though we knew they would not lead to success. We worked with our party loyalty. We had disagreements on many issues with our deputy Yavuz Aydın during the local elections. However, I tried to manage the process properly despite everything, in order not to harm my party during the election period. However, as the İYİ Party, we suffered a heavy defeat across the country, except for a limited number of provinces and districts. In Trabzon, we protected our existing municipality by winning the Yomra Municipality with our Mayor Mustafa Bıyık."

THERE WAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO REGAIN MOMENTUM

Stating, "We contradicted our own rhetoric and saw that politics cannot be done against the people and the grassroots," the Chair said, "Following this situation, our General Chair Meral Akşener decided to hold a congress and stated that she would not be a candidate. There was an opportunity for the İYİ Party to regain momentum. Three very valuable names from our party announced their candidacy at the congress. One of them was the pride of our city, our minister Koray Aydın. We supported him. This was what befitted the Trabzon organization. We could not have supported another candidate while there was a general chair candidate from Trabzon; it would not have suited us. During the process, I also called our other general chair candidates and conveyed my best wishes. Trabzon is a very different city. This city has unwritten rules and very sharp norms. This city is nationalist; it supports its own people. It always supports those who are one of its own. However, this did not happen at the İYİ Party Extraordinary Congress. There were those who did not support General Chair Mr. Koray Aydın, who makes politics with the votes and efforts of İYİ Party members and is a source of hope for our party, even though they were friends and walked the same path with him," she said.

SOME EVENTS DEEPLY SHOOK ME

Noting that she has resigned from her position as İYİ Party Trabzon Provincial Chair, the Chair said, "Some events that took place at the congress shook us deeply. Our Yomra Mayor Mustafa Bıyık could not vote at the congress. His information was entered incorrectly. We do not know if it was intentional or unintentional. However, it is a suspicious situation that a delegate who was able to vote without any problems in the previous congress could not vote in this election. I could say much more about the congress, but due to political ethics, I do not want to go into these issues too much. To come to the conclusion, I think that there is no longer a healthy working environment after these events as the İYİ Party Provincial Chair. As of today, I would like to share with the public that I have resigned from my position as İYİ Party Trabzon Provincial Chair, which I have been carrying out. I wish success to General Chair Müsavat Dervişoğlu and the İYİ Party family. I would like to thank my provincial board members, district chairs, organization members, and everyone who has put their heart into our party for their efforts while walking this path with me until now," she expressed.
