İYİ Party rejects CHP's call for an extraordinary session for Can Atalay
İYİ Party Ankara MP Kürşad Zorlu has responded negatively to the CHP's initiative to call the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) for an extraordinary session regarding Gezi Park trial convict Can Atalay. Stating that "the normal legislative period should be awaited," Zorlu noted that such meetings lead to tension.
CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir announced that they will call the TBMM General Assembly for an extraordinary session again on September 10, in line with the Constitutional Court's ruling regarding Can Atalay, who was convicted in the Gezi Park trial and whose parliamentary membership was revoked.
THE NORMAL LEGISLATIVE PERIOD SHOULD BE AWAITED FOR CAN ATALAY
Responding to this call, İYİ Party Ankara MP Kürşad Zorlu expressed his opposition to the CHP's initiative. Speaking to Ekol TV, Zorlu said, "We met once already. Unpleasant scenes occurred. It embarrasses and saddens me that the Parliament is associated with such scenes. The normal legislative period should be awaited for Can Atalay. A vote has already been held anyway."
Kürşad Zorlu further stated that he would respect and abide by the decision to be taken by his party group, adding, "Giving such an image while calling for parliamentary democracy also confuses our nation. Our people rightfully ask, 'Is this how you will return to a parliamentary system?' I do not want to take part in a tense and combative image by attending this meeting again."
