İYİ Party Bursa Deputy Yüksel Selçuk Türkoğlu stated that insurance entries made during internship and apprenticeship periods should be counted as the start date for retirement calculations.
At a press conference held at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) alongside victims of the "internship and apprenticeship" issue, Türkoğlu noted that the current practice leaves many people disadvantaged in their retirement calculations years later.
Stating that interns and apprentices are issued insurance cards, that start dates are created in Social Security Institution (SGK) records, and that premium notifications are made for certain insurance branches, Türkoğlu argued that these records are nevertheless not accepted as the start date for long-term insurance branches.
Türkoğlu pointed out that in the current system, insurance for interns and apprentices generally covers short-term insurance branches such as work accidents and occupational diseases, while long-term premiums for disability, old age, and life insurance are generally not paid during these periods.
Everyone who goes to workplaces at a young age to learn a trade, is present in the work environment, participates in production, and has an insurance record created by the state should essentially have their internship start date taken as the basis for retirement; it should be accepted as the insurance start date. Our call is clear. The TBMM should not postpone this issue any longer.
Emphasizing that the regulation should be brought to the Parliament's agenda, Türkoğlu demanded that these periods be taken into account in the retirement calculations of those who began their working lives during internship and apprenticeship periods.
