İYİ Party Spokesperson Zorlu on Köylüoğlu: 'It was an appropriate decision'

İYİ Party Ankara Provincial Chair Faruk Köylüoğlu had resigned due to his objections regarding the lack of support for Mansur Yavaş's candidacy. İYİ Party Spokesperson Kürşad Zorlu made evaluations regarding the matter.

"IT WAS AN APPROPRIATE DECISION"

Zorlu stated the following:

"These are very unfortunate statements. Because what is essential for a political party is the legal personality of that party and the decisions of its authorized bodies. This situation, this mechanism, is above individuals. We made our decision to compete in these elections as free and independent in our General Administrative Board, the highest body of our party. There were some friends there who objected to this decision; there were 5 of them. However, they are continuing their duties. They also declared that they would stand behind this common decision of our party. Mr. Köylüoğlu's resignation was, from our perspective, a correct and appropriate decision in this sense. Because, for the future of our party, it is vital that this common decision of ours, this important and critical decision regarding the future of our political party, be carried out all together, with belief, and in unity. We look at the matter this way."

When asked, "Mr. Faruk states that his resignation was requested. Is there a situation where the Headquarters is requesting resignations from other provincial chairs and organizations that do not align with the GİK decision?", Zorlu replied, "This is a subject that could be highly speculated. With this determination, we will hopefully move forward under the leadership of our Chairperson with all our members who stand by this resolute stance on the journey of being a new path for Turkey and a new hope for our nation, and we will succeed in this."

MEMORANDUM STATEMENT

Upon another journalist's question, "The Syria and Iraq memorandums will be discussed in Parliament this week. What will be your party's stance?", Zorlu replied, "On national issues, especially when terrorism is involved, we view this matter as being above parties, and we evaluate the past and the future together, basing our stance on our country's interests. We have voted in favor of memorandums from time to time in the past as well. As far as we know, the latest memorandums you mentioned have not yet been referred to the groups, even if they have reached the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. When this matter is conveyed to us, our authorized bodies will evaluate it and we will announce our opinion to the public."
