İYİ Party statement on Bilecik Municipality and alliance with AKP

Zorlu, speaking at a press conference held at the party headquarters following the party's Presidential Council meeting, said that the main agenda items were the martyrs and the fight against terrorism.

Emphasizing that the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) are fighting selflessly against the terrorist organization PKK, he stated that it is the primary duty of every Turkish citizen to stand with the Turkish army, which is the defender of the indivisible integrity and sovereignty of the Turkish state and nation on the front lines, in the struggle it is waging against the separatist terrorist organization.

"WE SUPPORT THE OPERATIONS"

Pointing out that protecting the 378-kilometer border line with Iraq and the 911-kilometer line with Syria, as well as eliminating terror nests, is of vital importance for internal and external security, Zorlu said:

"The detection of high-tech equipment on the neutralized terrorists and the scale of the ammunition seized show that both external support and the support corridor on the Iraq-Syria line continue to function. As the İYİ Party, we would like to express once again that we stand with and support the operations in northern Iraq. We want the terror nests there to be eradicated immediately."

"TALKS WITH DAMASCUS SHOULD BE INITIATED"

Drawing attention to the fact that the fight against the separatist terrorist organization PKK has a Syrian dimension and international support, Zorlu noted that although the focus today is on operations in northern Iraq, the strategic threat comes from northern Syria.

Zorlu said, "When we evaluate the issue together with the refugee danger, the necessary steps must be taken to prevent the establishment of a terror statelet in northern Syria, and even, if necessary, initiating talks with Damascus against this swamp should be considered."

SWEDEN AND NATO MEMBERSHIP

Stating that the support for terrorist organizations on the Syria-Iraq line is managed by the US, Zorlu continued his words as follows:

"Sweden's NATO membership, which has not yet been voted on in the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), should be evaluated in line with this struggle of ours. We voted 'no' in the commission because we saw such a course and gravity. If Qandil is the production center of the terror scourge, its logistics base is also known. It is unacceptable for those who talk about fighting the external support of terrorist organizations today to lie down on the job regarding the Sweden issue."

Zorlu stated, "The PKK terrorist organization and its political extensions, and all elements that provide logistical support, military training, and create financial and human resources for this organization, must be fought at all costs. The Turkish nation, which shows the will to live together on its homeland with the law of brotherhood, should never be allowed to be weakened by segregation and separatism."

"WE HAVE EMBARKED ON A NEW JOURNEY"

Zorlu answered journalists' questions after his statement.

Regarding the question about the election of Municipal Council Member Mustafa Sadık Kaya as mayor following the resignation of Semih Şahin, who was temporarily suspended from his mayoral duties due to bribery allegations in Bilecik Municipality, Zorlu said:

"Our decision is very clear and precise. We are determined to break this conventional habit of both the political power and the opposition on March 31. We are sadly following a very serious disinformation, and even untrue statements, regarding Bilecik.

A municipality won with an alliance in the 2019 elections, and then the mayor is suspended from duty. In the votes held within the municipality before that, we supported the CHP's Municipal Council member candidate and ensured their election twice.

However, we have now embarked on a new journey. As the İYİ Party, we are in the responsibility and excitement of getting our own candidates elected. Today it is Bilecik, tomorrow there might be surprise places. I want to underline once again that our determination on this matter will continue."

"WORK ON DETERMINING ANKARA AND ISTANBUL CANDIDATES CONTINUES"

In response to a question about whether the mayoral candidates for Istanbul and Ankara have been determined, Zorlu replied, "Our work to determine our Ankara and Istanbul candidates continues. We are conducting a very sensitive process. We would like these polls to be conducted again after our candidate is announced. It is an election where our nation will decide. What is important is the realization of our will and this decision we have taken."

Providing information that İYİ Party Chairman Meral Akşener called Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler first and then Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan by phone after the news of the martyrs was announced by the Ministry of National Defense, Zorlu noted the following:

"In the same context, they also called the President. This event took place on Friday evening. Hakan Fidan returned the call and had a consultation and evaluation with our Chairman regarding the process. We did not make our call for a joint declaration after meeting with the President, as mentioned; we made that call on Saturday. Furthermore, the President returned our call before entering the Security Summit, and a meeting was held with our Chairman regarding the process. Terrorism and the fight against terrorism are our nation's common concern. It is an area where we must show this struggle with determination so that our will to live together can survive. In this framework, our Chairman called the President for the sake of national unity, he returned the call, and such a meeting was held. We are going through a period where political exploitation should not take place."
