İYİ Party's Buğra Kavuncu takes a jab at CHP over 'trustee' appointment: 'They were normalizing together yesterday'

İYİ Party Group Deputy Chairman and Istanbul MP Buğra Kavuncu held a press conference at the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM).

Kavuncu responded to a question regarding the arrest of CHP's Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer and the appointment of a trustee to the municipality by criticizing both the CHP and the AKP.

'ONE SHOULD ASK ÖZEL, ERDOĞAN, AND DEM'

Criticizing the CHP for attempting to conduct a 'normalization process' with the AKP, Kavuncu said the following:

“This question should be asked to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, who started with the rhetoric of normalization, sent his shadow ministers to the official ministers in office, and constantly raised the stakes. This question should be asked to Bahçeli, who talks about the right to hope, who invites the terrorist leader to pollute the veteran parliament as if it were not enough that he pollutes the homeland soil in Imralı, and who talks about both sides as Turkish and Kurdish. This question should be asked to the President, who constantly tests the pulse and measures reactions, and who congratulates both Mr. Özel and his alliance partner, while no journalist on the plane dares to ask him at the most critical point. This question should be asked to DEM, which accuses us of not being opposition enough at every opportunity, puts voters forward as if they were an element to be herded in the new constitution bargaining, and does not cut its ties with the terrorist organization.” 

'THEY WERE NORMALIZING TOGETHER YESTERDAY'

Arguing that the ruling party and the main opposition have dragged Turkey into an amateurish and clumsy process, Kavuncu stated, “They were normalizing together yesterday, and today they expect everyone to react. Was this government so democratic yesterday that you are normalizing it now? As for the other side; until yesterday, you were calling everyone a PKK/YPG supporter. Today, you are showing Öcalan as a counterpart. What happened that these turnarounds occurred? Where and what are you bargaining for? At the end of this process, you will not even be able to face the nation. The Esenyurt Mayor was under surveillance for 10 years. They say he met with terrorists and there is evidence. The judicial process is ongoing. You present the evidence, explain the justifications, and then you carry out the process we just explained.”

'WHY DON'T YOU TOUCH HÜSEYİN YAYMAN TOO?'

Kavuncu continued:

“AKP's Hüseyin Yayman, who insulted our Chairman on television, met with Remzi Kartal, the so-called leader of the PKK/KCK, at least as much as Ahmet Özer did. Go ahead, touch him too. Go ahead, take action regarding him as well. Friends, this is literally a 'boatman's quarrel' (a futile, performative dispute). They are deceiving the nation. This is the summary of everything that is happening.”
