İYİ Party's election manifesto includes proposal for special law for Istanbul
The local election manifesto announced by the İYİ Party in Ankara includes a proposal for a special law for Istanbul.
The İYİ Party, which decided to enter the local elections 'free and independent,' announced its local election manifesto in Ankara yesterday (February 24).
The manifesto, announced with the slogan "The best of Turkey," began with the words, "The best will change Turkey. We will take the first step of a glorious journey extending to 2028. We will start Turkey's democratic national rise from the local level."
The manifesto included a separate law proposal for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB).
According to the report in Gazete Duvar, the manifesto stated that Istanbul has an importance that cannot be compared to other metropolitan cities in many aspects such as its historical and cultural heritage, economic and commercial capacity, population density, and volume of public services and investments, adding: "Similar to examples in developed countries, it is necessary to give the city of Istanbul a separate place within the local government legislation and to prepare an Istanbul Metropolitan Law that complements these laws specifically for the city as an extension of the municipal and metropolitan laws."
