With only days left until the local elections on March 31, 2024, political party mayoral candidates have accelerated their election campaigns.

Buğra Kavuncu, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) mayoral candidate for the İYİ Party, which decided to enter the local elections "freely and independently," explained his goals.

As a guest on Gazete Duvar's YouTube channel, Kavuncu emphasized that the events following the May 14-28 elections influenced their decision to participate in the March 31 elections "freely and independently," and announced the success rate they aim to achieve. Kavuncu said, "The votes we received in 2019 and 2023 are a benchmark. We will take these and evaluate them."

"AS LONG AS İMAMOĞLU IS IN POLITICS, WE WILL NOT ADJUST OURSELVES ACCORDING TO HIM"

Referring to the alliance formed with the CHP in 2019, Kavuncu said, "The main factor that made us rivals while we were in an alliance was seeing that the efforts were not enough to come to power. Turkey needs a third alternative. Our alliance was not an alliance made to make Mr. İmamoğlu and Mansur Yavaş successful or to carry them into the future. We are a political party, and as long as Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu is in politics, we will not adjust ourselves according to him."

"WE DECIDED TO WALK OUR OWN PATH"

Kavuncu continued his words as follows;

"In the polls we had, Yavaş and İmamoğlu were ahead. We did not want to put this election at risk. The offer for these two names to assist had come from Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. What we saw when we returned to the table was different. The picture we were told about and the one we saw were separate from each other. Today, we have decided to walk our own path."

'OUR CONCERN IS NOT EKREM İMAMOĞLU'

Stating that they are not candidates who 'cause someone to lose' or 'cause someone to win,' Kavuncu said, "There is nothing more natural than us charting our own path. Our concern is not to make Ekrem İmamoğlu win or lose."

WE WILL RECEIVE OVER 10 PERCENT OF THE VOTE

Kavuncu stated that they have increased their recognition with the election campaign and that they will receive over 10 percent of the vote.

"KURUM IS SELLING DREAMS, İMAMOĞLU CANNOT PROVIDE A TIMELINE"

Criticizing the promises of Murat Kurum and İmamoğlu, Kavuncu said, "The populist promises of Murat Kurum and Ekrem İmamoğlu have not solved Turkey's chronic problems. Kurum is selling dreams, and İmamoğlu cannot provide a timeline."

Buğra Kavuncu ended his words by saying, "Our first priority will be to solve the earthquake problem in Istanbul."
