İYİ Party's Koncuk on 'operation': 'There is outside interference'

Following the 31 March local elections, Meral Akşener's departure from her post and her subsequent long silence, her meeting with President and AKP Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has sparked reactions within the party, with a statement also coming from İYİ Party GİK member İsmail Koncuk. 

STATEMENT ON 'NORMALIZATION'

Koncuk said the following in a post on his social media account:

"Since the first day he was elected, İYİ Party Chair Mr. Musavat Dervişoğlu has placed a clear caveat on AKP-opposition relations by stating, 'We will not be part of any constitutional amendment that reinforces the Presidential Government System and Mr. Erdoğan's powers.' He has approached the normalization policies of the AKP and CHP with caution and used cautionary language. While the social and economic costs of the 22-year AKP government to our country and nation are evident, this political approach by our Chair, Mr. Dervişoğlu, has found a positive response both within the İYİ Party base and among voters, and the İYİ Party has begun to heal the wounds formed during the local election process and make progress toward becoming a trusted political party again.

At this very point, the occurrence of developments that open the İYİ Party to debate should bring to mind a two-sided, planned operation. If it happens, any future resignations will not be the result of mistakes or errors within the party, but will be evaluated in the eyes of society as the dirty results of outside interference.

In this seesaw politics, political brokers certainly could not turn a blind eye to the resurgence of the İYİ Party, and the existence of an uncontrollable Chair could not be accepted. What the İYİ Party is experiencing today is exactly this, but what must not be forgotten is the dynamic structure of the İYİ Party base. This dynamic structure has more than enough awareness and capacity to tear down all the dirty plans that have been constructed. It is up to all of us to put aside our past angers, resentments, arrogance, and egos, and to say stop to this open and dirty operation. For the future and independence of Turkey, and to neutralize the dirty plans of political brokers, it is time to tighten our ranks."
