Jail shock in AKP-run municipality!

In Isparta, a lawsuit was filed against two deputy mayors and other bureaucrats working at the Isparta Municipality for the crime of "misconduct through negligence" as a result of disturbances caused by a wedding hall located in the Halıkent neighborhood.

The lawsuit process was initiated after the loud music broadcasts and cooking odors from the wedding hall disturbed neighborhood residents, and municipal bureaucrats failed to take the necessary steps to rectify the situation.

WEDDING HALL BECAME A NIGHTMARE FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD

The Modapark Wedding Hall, located in Isparta's Halıkent neighborhood and operated by S.B., began broadcasting loud music, cooking food outdoors causing foul odors, and creating noise pollution as of 2023. Neighborhood residents reported this situation to the Isparta Municipality and demanded a solution. However, the failure to revoke the wedding hall's license and the indifference to the complaints drew the reaction of the local people.

MUNICIPALITY NEGLECTED COMPLAINTS

The Isparta Municipality did not take the necessary steps in the face of the neighborhood residents' complaints. The matter was taken to the judiciary, and in their statements on March 6, 2025, citizens reiterated their complaints against those responsible, stating that the cooking odors had still not been eliminated and the parking problem persisted. A complaining citizen stated that they have MS and that the disturbance they experienced negatively affected their health condition.

PRISON SENTENCES FOR MUNICIPAL BUREAUCRATS

The Isparta 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance delivered its verdict regarding the municipal bureaucrats. Officials including Isparta Deputy Mayors U.B. and F.Y., Police Chief H.E., and Real Estate and Expropriation Directorate Unit Chief A.Ç. were sentenced to 3 months in prison each for the crime of "misconduct through negligence." It was announced in court that the sentence was given because the lease agreement for the wedding hall was not terminated and the workplace license was not revoked, despite the conditions for termination having been met.

EXPERT REPORT FOUND THE MUNICIPALITY GUILTY

According to the report by Veryansın, the expert report prepared during the trial process stated that there were numerous CİMER complaints regarding the wedding hall, but the municipality did not make the necessary interventions. The report stated, "Although a live music permit was granted to the wedding hall, this permit was not revoked, and despite it being determined that music was being broadcast in open areas, the hall was allowed to continue its operations." Furthermore, it was stated that the hall's activities were not stopped during the inspections conducted by the Isparta Municipality, and instead of the fines imposed by the provincial directorate, the municipality still did not revoke the music permit.

SENTENCES CONVERTED TO FINES

The court converted the 3-month prison sentence given to Real Estate and Expropriation Directorate Unit Chief A.Ç. into a fine. Deputy Mayors F.Y. and U.B., and Police Chief H.E. were given 3-month prison sentences each. However, in accordance with legal regulations, these sentences were reduced to 2 months and 15 days, and it was decided that the defendants would be subject to a 5-year probation period.
