Justice Minister Tunç speaks on CHP Istanbul congress ruling
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç made statements regarding the cancellation of the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress and the removal of the provincial administration from office.
The Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance has ruled for the removal of the president elected at the 38th Ordinary CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress, Özgür Çelik, and his administration, and for the appointment of an interim board of directors. Following this development, Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç made assessments regarding the matter.
In his statement, Minister Tunç noted that the court issued an interim ruling in the lawsuit filed by a CHP Istanbul Provincial and Convention Delegate, which alleged irregularities and the securing of undue benefits at the congress. In line with this decision, he stated that the provincial president and board members elected at the congress have been temporarily suspended from their duties and that an interim board has been appointed in their place. He also stated that it was decided to halt the election procedures to be carried out by the Istanbul Provincial Organization during the 39th Ordinary Convention process.
Tunç emphasized that the court's decision is a precautionary measure aimed at preventing irreparable harm during the trial process and does not constitute a final verdict. Stating that the judicial process is ongoing, Tunç added that the right to appeal the decision remains open.
