Keçiören Municipality bans foreign-language signs
In Ankara's Keçiören Municipality, which passed from the AKP to the CHP, a mayoral proposal to mandate the use of Turkish signs and ban foreign-language signage has been unanimously approved.
Foreign-language signs will no longer be permitted in Ankara's Keçiören district.
The decision was approved by a majority vote in the municipal council.
In a statement released by the municipality, it was reported that the issue of foreign-language signage was addressed during the first municipal council meeting in May, and that the mayoral proposal regarding the use of Turkish signs, which bans the use of foreign-language signs, was unanimously accepted.
'WE ARE REFERRING TO ALL FOREIGN SIGNS'
In the statement, Keçiören Mayor Mesut Özarslan, whose views on the matter were included, stated that in accordance with the law, foreign signs will not be permitted throughout the district, with the exception of corporate brands.
Özarslan said, “We want Turkish signs to be used in our district, and we are very sensitive about this issue. We will not allow the use of foreign signs. To avoid any misunderstanding, I am saying that we are referring to all foreign signs, regardless of the language. We will prevent this and we will not accept it.”
