The statements by Hüseyin Gün, the prime suspect in the espionage investigation that also includes the imprisoned presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, regarding his organization of a meeting with AKP ministers at the House of Lords in London, have caused a major stir.

According to the statements of IYI Party MP Turhan Çömez, Hüseyin Gün, who is accused of espionage by the prosecutor's office and has benefited from effective remorse, stated in his testimony on July 4: "I organized the 'Rising Turkey' meeting at the House of Lords on February 10, 2010. Officials from the Republic of Turkey would attend these meetings."

The meeting mentioned by Gün was also included in the official program of Egemen Bağış, who was the State Minister responsible for European Union negotiations at the time. In addition to Egemen Bağış, the event was attended by former minister Kürşad Tüzmen, the then-Prime Ministerial Advisor and current MIT Chief İbrahim Kalın, former AKP Minister Yaşar Yakış, and AKP MP Nursuna Memecan. British ministers and parliamentarians were also present at the meeting.
