Kılıçdaroğlu calls on Numan Kurtulmuş regarding 'Can Atalay': 'I call on you to be courageous'
Former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu addressed Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş following the judicial crisis. Kılıçdaroğlu stated, "I call on the Parliament Speaker to be courageous and to defend the legitimate votes of the nation."
Following the judicial crisis that erupted after the Court of Cassation refused to comply with a Constitutional Court (AYM) ruling, former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has called on Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş to secure the release of Gezi prisoner and Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Hatay MP Can Atalay.
In a statement posted on his X account, Kılıçdaroğlu said the following:
"If a Parliament cannot release a Member of Parliament, who was elected with the approval of the Supreme Election Council and the votes of the nation, from prison despite a ruling by the Constitutional Court—the highest judicial body—then it is in a state of helplessness. It pains me to say that the vast majority of today's Parliament is under the yoke of the Palace. If the Parliament does not wish to betray the will of the nation, it must put an end to this shame. I call on the Parliament Speaker to be courageous and to defend the legitimate votes of the nation. The place for Hatay MP Can Atalay is the Grand National Assembly of Turkey!"
