It was revealed that Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu had held a secret meeting with some DEVA Party district chairs in Istanbul. It was alleged that in exchange for some of the DEVA Party district chairs Kılıçdaroğlu met with joining the CHP, DEVA Party Esenyurt district chair Halis Kahriman would be offered a mayoral candidacy.
The first reaction from the DEVA Party regarding the meeting in question came from the party's Deputy Chairman İdris Şahin. Şahin reacted to Kılıçdaroğlu with the words, "It is a pity. It did not suit you, Mr. Kemal."
FIRST STATEMENT FROM BABACAN
DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan made evaluations regarding the agenda at the Weekly Evaluation Meeting. Regarding the resignation of 13 district chairs and CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's meeting with the DEVA Party district chairs, Babacan said the following:
"The issue that has been on the agenda for the last 2 days is truly a sad event that needs to be handled from several perspectives. We do not consent to any of our friends leaving the party, and we are saddened. It should also be evaluated as natural that such developments occur in political parties. Another issue is our 2nd Ordinary Congress process. Our Congress process has begun, starting from all districts. Therefore, such political developments can occur during these Congress periods."
"WE ARE SADDENED, WE ARE SURPRISED"
"We knew that our district chairs had been preparing to leave for a while. We did not know that they would come together with Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu. I learned about it around 15:00 on Tuesday. When we first learned about it, we were saddened and surprised."
INVITATION TO THE RALLY
Babacan also responded to a question regarding whether they would attend the Great Palestine Rally organized by the AKP Istanbul Provincial Presidency, which members of the People's Alliance will attend, by saying, "There is no invitation that has reached our party regarding the Palestine rally."
