Lawsuit from Akın Gürlek against CHP Youth Branch President Cem Aydın!

On January 19, 2025, the CHP Youth Branch shared a video on their official social media accounts in which CHP Chairman Özgür Özel referred to Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek as a "mobile guillotine." Cem Aydın quoted this post on his own account.

The following day, on January 20, police teams took Aydın from his home early in the morning to give a statement. The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into Aydın for "insulting a public official" and "targeting individuals involved in counter-terrorism." As a result of the investigation, a lawsuit was filed against Aydın demanding a prison sentence of 2 years and 2 months to 5 years and 4 months, as well as a political ban.

100,000 TL COMPENSATION LAWSUIT

Ahead of the third hearing of the case to be held on September 15, it has been learned that Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek has filed a compensation lawsuit against Aydın for 100,000 TL.

The petition for the lawsuit stated, "We respectfully request and demand that 100,000 TL in compensation be collected from the defendant with interest due to the distress experienced by our client, the plaintiff Akın Gürlek, as a result of the insults and unfair accusations he was subjected to, and that the litigation costs and opposing counsel fees be charged to the defendant."

İMAMOĞLU HAD ALSO BEEN SUED DURING THE PROCESS

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu had reacted to the fact that Youth Branch President Aydın was taken in for questioning.

Following statements made during the questioning regarding Aydın's post, a lawsuit was also filed against İmamoğlu himself due to his remarks directed at Gürlek. A prison sentence of up to 7 years and 4 months and a political ban were requested for İmamoğlu. In the final hearing on July 16, the court acquitted İmamoğlu of the charge of "targeting," while sentencing him to 1 year and 5 months for "insulting a public official" and 2 months and 15 days for the charge of threatening.
