Leyla Zana's 'peace process' confession! 'You are hearing this for the first time...'

Leyla Zana, who served as a member of parliament for four terms, made statements regarding the 'peace process' that was conducted in partnership with the AKP government.

Stating that there were those who wanted the peace process to be carried out without AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, Abdullah Öcalan, Zana also issued a call to Erdoğan regarding the 'peace process.'

Speaking to Vecdi Özbay from Gazete Duvar, Zana said, "There were those who wanted to solve the problem without Öcalan and without Erdoğan, those who said 'we can solve this among ourselves.' You take on a world of risks, and some want to move forward by leaving you out of this. Would you accept it? It's difficult."

Relaying that some AKP members told her at the time, "Do you know that your people sabotaged this process to exclude Öcalan?", Zana stated that she replied to these individuals by saying, "The process was sabotaged because you wanted to carry this out without Erdoğan." The former MP said, "You are hearing this for the first time, aren't you? I am saying this with such ease because I have confronted some of them with this." 

Zana stated that when she gave this response, the people she was speaking to were unable to answer. 

Recalling that the AKP lost its majority in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for the first time in the June 7, 2015 elections, she pointed out that the "Peace Process" was still ongoing at that time. Zana said, "I claim that if a formula could have been created to prevent going to elections again, if the conscientious and sensitive public in Turkey, democratic forces, a portion of the Kurds, and Erdoğan could have stood against the security-oriented mentality, the process could have developed differently." 

RENEWED CALL TO ERDOĞAN FOR A PEACE PROCESS 

Referring to Erdoğan's words that he had "put the process in the freezer," Zana said, "Its expiration date is almost here; I think it is necessary to take it out of the freezer and address this matter fundamentally. Without wasting time..." 

Stating that it is evident the AKP government currently has no such effort, Zana said, "There is no longer any tolerance for delaying or postponing time, do you understand?"
