March 31 local elections were followed by criticism that many AKP MPs had become disconnected from the public due to their luxurious lifestyles.

It was recently alleged that the AKP group management issued a warning, stating, "Everyone is watching you right now. Therefore, every step you take is susceptible to being misunderstood. Be sensitive in every matter, from clothing to what you eat and drink."

According to a report by Veli Kayaoğlu from Türkiye newspaper; the dining, clothing, and other social media posts by some MPs and party organization members that drew backlash have become a subject of debate within the AKP. While evaluating the election results, it was stated that such behaviors were also a factor in the party finishing second in an election for the first time.

In the assessments made, it was determined that even if they are well-intentioned and sincere, posts made on social media are perceived incorrectly by the public and draw reactions. Pointing out that President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is also very sensitive about behaviors involving 'pomp, ostentation, and arrogance', AKP officials reminded that MPs have been warned about this from time to time. Stating that they advise MPs to be more sensitive, AKP executives said, "We are all people in the public eye. We tell our MP colleagues to be more careful. We want them to be sensitive in every matter, from clothing to what they eat and drink."

It was stated that group executives asked MPs to be careful in every area, from the statements they make to the language and rhetoric they use. The group management warned the MPs, "Everyone is watching you right now. Therefore, every step you take is susceptible to being misunderstood. Even if you are sincere, it will be perceived incorrectly. For this reason, be very careful. Avoid behaviors that will lead to undesirable results."
