Saadet Party Chairman Mahmut Arıkan reacted to the inflation figures announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). In his statement, Arıkan argued that the official data does not reflect the cost-of-living crisis experienced by citizens.
Evaluating the inflation debate through the major losses he stated were occurring in the stock market, Arıkan targeted the economic management by using the phrase "800 billion lira heist."
On one side, there are suspicious billions circulating under the name of 'funds,' and on the other, millions whose kitchens are being burned by TUIK's 'funded' figures... We ask: Whose inflation is this? Whose life do these figures describe? Is the 800 billion lira heist in TUIK's inflation basket? While the baskets of the fund-holders are stuffed to the brim, the citizen's shopping bag remains empty!
Arıkan stated that the cause of inflation is not the bazaar, the market, or the grocery store, and that the responsibility lies directly with the government. The Saadet Party leader said, "Those who evaporated 800 billion in the stock market are the cause; inflation is the result."
