Saadet Party Chairman Mahmut Arıkan made evaluations regarding his party's political goals and potential alliance options during a broadcast he attended. Arıkan stated that their understanding of politics cannot be based solely on remaining in the opposition or criticizing the government.
Emphasizing that his party's goal is to be in power, Arıkan expressed that politics is not just about observing the current situation. Arıkan said, “Politics is not a job of making situation assessments; politics is a job of directing the course of events. If there is even a pinhead's worth of possibility, we want to be in power. Why should I stay in the opposition and do politics in a comfortable zone, talking about the government's mistakes morning and night? This is not politics.”
Stating that it has become difficult to come to power alone under the current electoral system, Arıkan drew attention to the 50+1 percent requirement. For this reason, he expressed that cooperation with different political parties is inevitable.
Upon the host's question as to whether this assessment also covers the People's Alliance, Arıkan said that he is not in a position to completely close the doors.
“With 50+1, I cannot come to power alone as the Saadet Party. Because I am aware of this, we of course know that we have to cooperate with many political parties. I am not a politician who says to the People's Alliance, ‘It will never happen, one cannot come together with them.’ Of course I would come together.”
Arıkan's statements drew attention regarding the discussions on the future alliance pursuits of the Saadet Party, which was part of the Table of Six during the 2023 election process.
