Mansur Yavaş responds to Kaboğlu, who claimed the Constitution's unchangeable articles could be amended: 'Article 4 is very clear, professor'

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, responded via his social media account to remarks made by the new president of the Istanbul Bar Association, İbrahim Kaboğlu, regarding the unchangeable articles of the Constitution. Yavaş stated that Article 4 of the Constitution cannot be changed.

In his post, Yavaş used the following expressions:

“Article 4 of the Constitution is very clear, professor. The Constitutional Court (AYM) has ruled on this matter twice and stated that because Article 4 protects the first three articles, it itself cannot be changed. The fact that you consider it positive does not change the situation.”

WHAT DID KABOĞLU SAY?

The new President of the Istanbul Bar Association, İbrahim Kaboğlu, had made the following statement regarding the first four articles of the Constitution: "The unchangeable articles can be touched in a positive sense. Just as it was done in 1995, just as it was done in 2001. In 1995, racist expressions in the Preamble were removed. In the 2001 amendment, the definition of 'a secular and democratic Republic based on human rights' was added to Article 14." he had stated.
