Mansur Yavaş responds to his rival Turgut Altınok: 'I am not making promises, theirs are just promises...'
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş visited Independent Turkey Party (BTP) Chairman Hüseyin Baş at the BTP headquarters today. Following the visit, Yavaş responded to the election promises made by AKP's Ankara candidate Turgut Altınok. Yavaş stated, "I am not making promises; I have been implementing them for 3 years. Theirs are just promises."
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş visited Independent Turkey Party (BTP) Chairman Hüseyin Baş at the BTP headquarters today.
In a statement following the visit, Yavaş said, "I visited our Chairman and shared with him the work we have done over the past five years. As you can see on our posters for the upcoming election, we have emerged with the logo 'Ankara's mayor is everyone's mayor.' A mayor cannot discriminate against those they serve. Once elected, they embrace everyone. We have worked this way for 5 years, and I shared my views regarding the upcoming term with him. I hope it will lead to a positive outcome."
"I WISH YOU GREAT SUCCESS"
BTP Chairman Hüseyin Baş also remarked, "We have discussed how we can all make sacrifices, work, and plan together so that Turkey can achieve more beneficial results for its future, both in municipal services and in the political environment. Therefore, we will continue to evaluate the process moving forward. I wish you great success in the elections."
ALTINOK'S PROMISES
Yavaş also answered questions from journalists. When asked by a journalist, "We haven't heard an assessment from you regarding your rival Turgut Altınok. How do you evaluate him?", Yavaş said the following:
"It is our voters who will make the real assessment. We have 4 million 200 thousand voters, and their opinion is very important. I hope it will be reflected at the ballot box; we have worked for 5 years. I am asking the people of Ankara for a majority in the Municipal Council, and we will achieve this. Our efforts and meetings in this direction are ongoing. Because if you are receiving everyone's vote, you are serving everyone. Since you are serving everyone, we are candidates for the votes of all 4 million voters. I hope for a successful result."
"WE HAVE SEEN THAT HE IS NOT SENSITIVE ON THIS ISSUE"
Regarding a journalist's question about People's Alliance (Cumhur İttifakı) Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayoral Candidate Turgut Altınok, "It seems like a controversy will arise over social aid. For example, regarding your meat promise, they made a statement saying, 'I am giving meat,'" Yavaş spoke as follows:
"I am not making promises; I have been implementing them for 3 years. Theirs are just promises... It would have been normal for my rival to make promises if he were not already a mayor. But when you look at the budget, it is clear how much he allocated to social aid and how much of that he actually provided. While we provide social support to approximately 50 thousand people in Keçiören, if the mayor of that place only provides support to 2-3 thousand people, there is a problem here. The problem is this: it is the understanding of mayorship. Above all projects, it is about ensuring a child does not go to bed hungry and is not deprived of their schooling. We have seen that he is not sensitive on this issue."
