Mansur Yavaş reveals the behind-the-scenes of his resignation from the CHP for the first time! What did he say about the AKP claims?
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş spoke about the process of his resignation from the CHP, allegations that he would join the AKP, and his potential presidential candidacy.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş explained the details regarding his resignation process from the CHP to Nefes newspaper columnist Aytunç Erkin. Yavaş stated that he had previously prepared a resignation letter, and after a phone call from Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, he "shelved" this text, but later changed his decision.

According to Erkin, the process began with the CHP's founding anniversary program on September 9 and the statements made afterward. In his message on September 10, Yavaş emphasized that instead of "opening new fronts," the ground where parties could meet at the same table again should be preserved, which sparked debate within the party.
Stating that he prepared a resignation letter following the criticism of this statement by CHP Group Chairman Faik Öztrak, Yavaş described the process with these words:
"Yes; I prepared a resignation letter upon that statement by Mr. Faik. However, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu called me and 'asked me not to take these things to heart,' so I gave up. I didn't tear up the text, but I can say I shelved it. However, upon Mr. Müslim's statements, my decision changed and I made the decision to resign."

Allegations that Yavaş would join the AKP were also brought up during the interview. Erkin wrote that he asked Yavaş the question "Will you join the AKP?" by recalling the meeting held at the Presidential Palace with AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Yavaş responded to this question by pointing to the expressions in his resignation letter. In the relevant section of the text, it was emphasized that the voter casts their vote not only for a name but also for a political will.
"I did not find it right to ignore the will of the voter, nor to move the offices obtained with their votes to political addresses that the voter does not approve of, and I do not find it right today either. Loyalty to the voter's will is the honor of politics."

His potential presidential candidacy was also asked during the interview. It was reported that Yavaş said, "We will watch and see. Our priority is Ankara," regarding this matter. Yavaş had previously stated that it would not be right to make an assessment regarding candidacy before the election calendar is clear, and that his primary duty is the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayoralty.
