Mansur Yavaş's first reaction to İmamoğlu's 'Fool Case'
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş has made his first statement regarding the 'Fool Case,' which resulted in a political ban for İmamoğlu and was upheld by the appellate court. Yavaş argued that the Court of Cassation should issue an acquittal.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş spoke for the first time about the "Fool Case" filed against Ekrem İmamoğlu, which resulted in a political ban, after visiting İmamoğlu and other detained mayors at Silivri Prison. Yavaş criticized the appellate court's decision to uphold the sentence İmamoğlu received after using the word "fool" in reference to the Supreme Election Council, and stated that he expects an acquittal from the Court of Cassation.
YAVAŞ IS HOPEFUL FOR IMAMOĞLU'S ACQUITTAL
Mansur Yavaş stated that the Court of Cassation will make the final decision after the legal evaluation of İmamoğlu's words regarding the Supreme Election Council. "We believe the Court of Cassation's decision should be an acquittal," Yavaş said, adding that the current ruling is a political one and that the final assessment will be made by the Court of Cassation.
"THE POLITICAL BAN DECISION WILL BE EVALUATED BY THE COURT OF CASSATION"
As debates continue regarding İmamoğlu's use of the word "fool," Yavaş said that İmamoğlu did not intend to target the Supreme Election Council with this expression and that the members of the election board themselves did not have such a complaint. Stating that a political ban was issued despite this, Yavaş said, "We are of the opinion that this decision is incorrect, and we believe that the Court of Cassation will issue an acquittal."
