Mansur Yavaş speaks out for those victimized by the interview system: 'The state has a promise to you'

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş attended the 20th Young Academy Symposium, organized by the Bilkent University Industrial Engineering Operational Research Club under the slogan "Turkey's University Meeting." Speaking at the event, Yavaş made significant assessments regarding the education system.

"WE BOASTED ABOUT QUANTITY, NOT QUALITY"

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, Yavaş, emphasized that the state should provide quality education and job guarantees, noting that schools have been opened based on 'numbers' for years, and continued his remarks as follows:

"We boasted about opening universities in every province. We should have boasted about the quality of the universities we opened. Unfortunately, we could not do that. While a young person attending any school expects to have a job after studying for 5 years, their family also spends their hard-earned money with the expectation that 'my child will finish school and have a good job.' But unfortunately, that did not happen."

UNIVERSITY STUDENT NUMBERS HAVE DECREASED IN EUROPE

Continuing his speech by citing research by Professor Selçuk Şirin, Yavaş stated that the number of university students in Europe is low and explained the system in the West with the following sentences:

"Not everyone wants to study at a university because they attend technical schools or choose jobs that suit their skills and start their lives as soon as possible. Therefore, we do not have to open a university everywhere. We boast about how many university students we have. But when they graduate from those schools and cannot find a job, the young people and their families are disappointed."

CRITICIZED THE INTERVIEW SYSTEM

Criticizing the interview system and reminding of the promises made, Yavaş concluded his remarks by saying, "The state has a promise to you. The interview system must be abolished. The state must also treat all its people equally and fairly. If you worry about whether you will find a job when you graduate, while a certain group acts as if their job is guaranteed, your trust in the state is shaken. Therefore, the interview system must be eliminated, and success and merit must be brought to the forefront."
