Former AKP MP and Yeni Şafak columnist Mehmet Metiner made evaluations regarding the call made by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli in Parliament concerning PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Highlights from Metiner's column are as follows:

"I call on everyone to rethink while there is still time.

Mr. Bahçeli's call should find a response.

If Öcalan still stands behind the 'democratic republic' project, he should come out and make a call in line with Mr. Bahçeli's proposal.

If there is a declaration of will from Öcalan in this direction, he should be enabled to speak in the direction Mr. Bahçeli stated without delay.

If Öcalan makes a call within the framework envisioned by Mr. Bahçeli and influential political actors like Demirtaş also firmly declare their support for this, a new process will begin.

If Kandil-DEM resists this, they will lose.

The Kurds of this country now want a permanent solution.

And so do the Turks."
