Former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek responded on his social media account to the remarks made about him by former Parliament Speaker Bülent Arınç at the wedding of Ahmet Davutoğlu's son.
In his speech at the wedding, Arınç criticized Gökçek's past statements, saying, "He wanted to say 'I jumped every time' like chewing gum in his mouth; I watched it with shame." Arınç's words were applauded by some of the guests in the hall.
Gökçek, in his response, targeted the support Arınç gave to Davutoğlu. Reacting to Arınç saying "we are with him, we appreciate him" regarding Davutoğlu, whom he claimed had made criticisms directed at President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Gökçek argued that this was a contradiction that should be questioned in terms of "political morality."
In his statement, Gökçek said that those who should be appreciated are the people who have "devoted their hearts to this cause for years" and stood by President Erdoğan. Gökçek stated, "Let everyone see well who stands where, who they stand side-by-side with, and whose applause they are pleased with."
