Meral Akşener makes much-discussed statement on alliances
İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener visited shopkeepers on Turan Güneş Boulevard in Ankara's Çankaya district. While there, Akşener made a much-discussed statement regarding alliances.
In her conversation with shopkeepers, Akşener said, "I spent 3 years visiting shopkeepers. I learned so much; I learned about the retirees, I learned about the unemployed. But I did not disparage other parties, nor did I praise my own party.
I became your voice. Personally, first I and then my colleagues shared these problems with the public and tried to draw the government's attention. Now, there is an election. We have come to ask for your vote," she said.
"WHEN YOU FORM AN ALLIANCE, YOU DISAPPEAR"
When a shopkeeper told her he would not go to the polls, Akşener stated that the system forces alliances upon parties. Akşener said, "You are forced to form an alliance; and when you form an alliance, you disappear, your voice disappears, and the competition regarding you disappears," she spoke.
"I AM ASKING FOR A CHANCE"
Emphasizing that she has been active in politics for 30 years, Akşener said, "There is an election. You will vote for both the Çankaya district and the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality. I am not giving long speeches. Because we have already spent a very long time traveling and visiting these shops, and we have tried to bring these issues to the public's attention.
I am asking you for a chance. If the İYİ Party emerges strong in these local elections, your voice will be heard much more strongly. We worked for you in the previous term.
Look, we are the ones who voiced the need to correct many mistakes and flaws regarding retirees," she stated.
