Meral Akşener's thank-you visit to Nevşehir: 'I know how hard it is to get elected'

İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener paid a thank-you visit to Nevşehir, the only provincial municipality her party won in the local elections.

Akşener met with Mayor Rasim Arı during her visit.

Akşener stated, "We have evaluated the election results in our own way. We are saddened when we look at the vote percentages. But we are overjoyed when we look at the places we have won."

Although Mayor Rasim Arı requested that Akşener sit in the mayoral chair, Akşener replied, "I know how hard it is to get elected. You sit down. It is very difficult to be elected to that chair," and insisted that Rasim Arı take the seat.

"YOU SAID 'COME' AND I DID NOT LET YOU DOWN"

Meral Akşener and Rasim Arı noted the following in their remarks:

Rasim Arı told Akşener, "You held my hand and trusted me during my most difficult time. You opened all the doors. I thought I was alone during the election period, but we knew your hand was on our shoulder. You said 'Come' and I did not let you down."

Akşener responded, "You were the catalyst for all of us. Now you are sitting here. You passed this test, which is why you are sitting there."

"2 PERCENT INCREASE"

Speaking about the vote percentage he received in the local elections, Arı said, "I was elected with 51 percent in 2019. Currently, it is 53 percent. There were significant vote shifts from the AKP, MHP, and CHP."

"WE EMERGED FROM A SYSTEM THAT BROKE OUR HEARTS"

Meral Akşener, who also evaluated the local elections, said the following:

"I am coming here after a meeting we held with our deputies and our executive board. We have evaluated the election results in our own way. We are saddened when we look at the vote percentages. But we are overjoyed when we look at the places we have won. We emerged from a system that slightly broke our hearts; we left the headquarters hall and came here. A gentle breeze is blowing here now. Therefore, it is a matter that looks different depending on where you look. An election is a very important thing. May God not let you be embarrassed."
