Message from Hakan Fidan in Baku on Turkey-Azerbaijan relations: Strategic solidarity must not be exploited

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made statements to journalists in Baku, where he is attending the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA). Fidan stated that relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan are built on the understanding of "two states, one nation," noting that this strategic bond has been tested in different periods and has continued to grow stronger.

Expressing that the solidarity between the two countries manifests itself not only at the political level but also in social and cultural spheres, Fidan said, "The principle of two states, one nation shows itself in all areas. There is an unshakable bond of friendship and brotherhood between our leaders. This is a bond that has been tested in very difficult times, in times of war and crisis."

Fidan emphasized that while different approaches may emerge on various issues from time to time, these should not be used in a way that would damage Turkey-Azerbaijan relations. Minister Fidan noted that the strategic solidarity demonstrated by the two countries is also being closely watched by the international community.

SOCIAL MEDIA WARNING

Pointing out that the public in Turkey and Azerbaijan influence each other more closely with the spread of social media and communication channels, Fidan said that differing opinions should not be turned into tools for propaganda. Fidan stated, "We are an ancient nation. We sit down and discuss our own problems in a civilized manner, in a way that befits our ancient history and is worthy of us."

Stating that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan conveyed his instructions and assessments to him before his visit to Baku, Fidan said that these issues were also addressed within this framework during his meeting with Azerbaijani President İlham Aliyev.

Fidan noted that there is a sensitivity on both sides to protect the law of brotherhood, adding that relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan will continue to be decisive in the future, just as they have been in the past.
