Message from imprisoned Ahmet Özer regarding Özgür Çelik

CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik has been removed from office, and a decision was made to appoint an interim board of directors to the Provincial Presidency. While the decision has become a central topic on the political agenda, it has also caused fluctuations in the markets.

Imprisoned Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, in a statement made through his lawyers on his social media account, reacted to Çelik's removal from office.

Stating, "Our valued companion Özgür Çelik is our Istanbul Provincial Chair and the representative of an iron will," Özer noted the following:

"Designing politics through a trustee mentality and judicial decisions is incompatible with a Democratic Turkey. Ending these practices, which clearly will not have a positive reflection on legal security and trust in the law, is essential for our future."

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance had removed Özgür Çelik, who was elected chair at CHP's 38th Ordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress, from office and appointed Gürsel Tekin as a trustee to the Istanbul Provincial Presidency.
