Message from Özgür Özel on 'trade with Israel': 'Even if insufficient...'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel issued messages for Eid al-Fitr.

Özel described the Ministry of Trade's decision to impose trade restrictions on 54 product groups with Israel as "a first step, even if insufficient."

In his Eid message, Özel also touched upon the local elections, stating; "Ten days before the Eid al-Fitr we will reach tomorrow, our nation left behind a great festival of democracy, a great feast of democracy. With their voting preferences, all our citizens balanced the central government from the local level and opened the doors to a new Turkey."

"WE EVALUATE IT AS A FIRST STEP"

Özel's Eid message is as follows:

"We have all observed the month of Ramadan, the month of fasting. Ten days before the Eid al-Fitr we will reach tomorrow, our nation left behind a great festival of democracy, a great feast of democracy. With their voting preferences, all our citizens balanced the central government from the local level and opened the doors to a new Turkey.

Our country is entering Eid al-Fitr in the middle of a major economic crisis and deep poverty. Following Eid al-Fitr, we will do our best through the municipalities we govern and with our Group in Parliament to solve the problems of the broad segments of the public affected by the economic crisis—retirees, white, blue, and gray-collar workers, minimum wage earners, civil servants, and young people—and to mitigate the effects of this crisis. We are proposing, and will continue to propose, social policies not to manage poverty, but to end it.

We evaluate the partial restrictions announced by the People's Alliance on the last day of Ramadan—after they turned a deaf ear to the demands for cutting off trade with Israel, which were raised by our citizens and which we also embraced, in response to the massacre in Gaza that pains the hearts of the entire Islamic world and all of humanity—as a first step, even if insufficient. I hope that the oppression in the Islamic geography, especially in Gaza, will come to an end.

I celebrate the Eid al-Fitr of our entire nation and wish for this holiday to be a catalyst for new and beautiful beginnings."
