Message from Üsküdar Mayor Sinem Dedetaş to released comedian Deniz Göktaş: 'I am so happy'

Comedian Deniz Göktaş, who was arrested due to remarks made during his stand-up show titled "Dead Sea" (Ölü Deniz), was released at his first hearing after 88 days in custody.

While the court handed down a prison sentence to Göktaş regarding certain charges, it acquitted him of the charge of "praising a crime and a criminal" and ordered his release, taking into account the time he had already served.

Speaking after his release from prison, Göktaş mentioned Üsküdar Mayor Sinem Dedetaş and Mehmet Pehlivan, who remain in custody. Göktaş stated that he had imagined the three of them returning to Istanbul in the same vehicle, but that this did not come to pass.

Following Göktaş's remarks, Dedetaş shared a message on her social media account.

Expressing her satisfaction with the news of his release, Dedetaş noted that Göktaş's mention of his dream of "returning together" had moved her deeply.
