Mesut Özarslan, who resigned from CHP, did not find what he was looking for

Ankara Keçiören Mayor Mesut Özarslan had become the center of political debate following his statements after resigning from the CHP. Özarslan, who shared with the public the messages he said CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had sent him, had drawn attention with his remarks regarding the People's Alliance following his resignation.

In his statement, Özarslan had used the following words:

“I come from a conservative family in Sivas. In the tradition I was raised in, neither the AKP nor the MHP is distant. We will see.”

These statements had strengthened claims that Özarslan might join the AKP.

CORRUPTION ALLEGATIONS

Corruption allegations brought up regarding Özarslan had also become a subject of debate during the process of his potential transition to the AKP. It was suggested that some figures close to the AKP were keeping their distance from Özarslan's participation in the party due to these allegations.

Former MP Şamil Tayyar, known for his closeness to the AKP, had used the phrase “he has been placed in political quarantine” for Özarslan in a statement. This remark was interpreted as the AKP approaching Özarslan with caution.

ALL EYES TURNED TO THE AKP GROUP MEETING

Following all these developments, eyes in political circles turned to the AKP group meeting held today. There was an expectation that Özarslan might attend the meeting and his transition to the AKP could be made official.

With Mesut Özarslan not taking part in the AKP group meeting, the claims of his transition to the AKP have not materialized for now.
