Metin Feyzioğlu has been appointed as the Ambassador to the Czech Republic by the signature of President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The decision brought Egemen Bağış to mind.
Decisions regarding ambassadorial appointments, signed by President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, have been published in the Official Gazette.
Accordingly, according to the appointment decision published in the Official Gazette, Metin Feyzioğlu has been appointed as the Ambassador to the Czech Republic.
Metin Feyzioğlu, who became the Ambassador to Nicosia in 2022, was elected as the 8th president of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations in 2013.
EGEMEN BAĞIŞ COMES TO MIND
Former European Union Minister Egemen Bağış, whose name was involved in corruption and bribery allegations and who was claimed to have mocked the Quran by saying “This Bakara is a good reel” in a leaked audio recording on the internet, was alleged to have said “Bakara-makara.”
Bağış, who was Turkey's first European Union minister and chief negotiator, was appointed as the Ambassador to the Czech Republic in 2019.
Egemen Bağış, claiming that the audio recording was a montage, had said the following:
"It has been documented many times that this is a fake montage. Those who slander us should first repent for their own sins. We make our own repentance to the authorities to whom we should repent. We do not claim to be sinless. We have sins. We only make repentance for them to Allah. We do not let anyone question our faith.”
WHO IS EGEMEN BAĞIŞ?
Egemen Bağış is a Turkish politician born on April 23, 1970. He is Turkey's first Minister for European Union Affairs and Chief Negotiator. His father, Abdullah Bağış, served as the Justice Party Mayor of Siirt between 1974 and 1979. He received his undergraduate education in the Human Resources department of the Business School at The Baruch College of The City University of New York and completed his master's degree in Public Administration. He was elected as an Istanbul Deputy in 2002. In January 2009, he became the State Minister and Chief Negotiator to conduct full membership negotiations with the EU. Having previously served as the AKP Deputy Chairman responsible for Foreign Affairs, Bağış served as a member of the Central Executive Board, the highest executive body of the AKP, as Deputy Chairman.
He was elected as the President of the 22nd Term Turkey-USA Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group. Meanwhile, the Presidency of the NATO-Parliamentary Assembly (PA) Transatlantic Committee and the Vice Presidency of the NATO-PA Turkish Group are among the other duties Bağış performed during the 22nd Term.
Bağış served as the Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Project. He was elected President of the Federation of Turkish American Associations in New York twice in a row by unanimous vote.
