MHP issues political criticism of the judiciary
The MHP continues its criticism of the judiciary regarding recent operations targeting CHP-run municipalities and delays in indictments.
The MHP is increasing its criticism of judicial processes. Following statements by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, MHP Chief Advisor to the Chairman Yıldıray Çiçek also drew attention to changes in political attitudes within the judiciary. Stating that "approaches change according to political position," Çiçek noted that the impartiality of justice should be questioned.
In his article published in the newspaper Türkgün, Çiçek stated that operations involving allegations of corruption, bribery, and money laundering are carried out from time to time in Turkey, but that these processes are frequently used as tools for political competition and character assassination. Çiçek said, "The government and the opposition blame each other, but if actions were based on justice, law, and conscience, these debates would not occur."
Çiçek's statements emphasized that justice should not change according to individuals, institutions, or political positions. He used the expressions, "Whatever the crime is, the punishment should be the same, but in the current situation, approaches are changing and transforming."
