MHP member's 'Mr.' remark regarding Öcalan: Apology statement issued

While discussions regarding the new process that began following MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's calls to PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan continue, a "Mr. Öcalan" incident occurred within the MHP.

'MR. ÖCALAN' REMARK

Taking the floor during the session, Provincial General Assembly CHP Group Chairman Sadettin Akgül criticized the dismissal of lieutenants who said "We are soldiers of Atatürk" from the army, while also reacting to the idea of bringing Abdullah Öcalan to parliament.

It drew attention that MHP Çorum Provincial General Assembly Group Chairman Selim Dölcü, while responding to Sadettin Akgül, referred to PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan as "Mr. Öcalan."

MHP MEMBER ISSUES CORRECTION

MHP Provincial General Assembly Group Chairman Selim Dölcü issued a new statement titled 'correction and apology' to the public, stating that he used an involuntary word as a result of a slip of the tongue during yesterday's Provincial General Assembly session.

Here is that statement:

"A smear campaign is being conducted against my party and myself due to an involuntary word I used as a result of a slip of the tongue during a part of my speech at the Provincial General Assembly session on 03.02.2025. Anyone who listens to my entire speech will understand what I meant to say. Whatever we said yesterday, we say the same today.

Abdullah Öcalan is the head of terrorists and a baby killer. I apologize to the entire Nationalist-Idealist community and the Great Turkish Nation for coming to the agenda with such a topic and for occupying my organization with such a matter."
