MHP MP's 'livelihood advice' to retirees and civil servants: 'Should we grow tomatoes or sell water?'

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Aksaray MP Ramazan Kaşlı, in a speech on the television channel he attended, argued that instead of expecting the state to provide for them, retirees and civil servants should earn extra income by taking on side jobs through their own efforts.

Ramazan Kaşlı advised retirees and civil servants struggling with the cost of living to take on side jobs, stating, "In the 80s, teachers would sell bagels and water after school in the evenings."

Saying, "Instead of waiting for the state, citizens need to do an extra job," Kaşlı suggested that they could earn extra income by selling tomatoes or doing similar work.

"SHOULD WE GROW TOMATOES OR SELL WATER?"

Kaşlı's remarks are as follows:

We also need to do something. Should we grow tomatoes or sell water? We can buy and sell something else. A second job that will bring 10 thousand liras of income to our family economy.

"INSTEAD OF JUST WAITING FOR THE STATE..."

"I know from before, after school, teachers would sell bagels, they would sell water. Because back then, the salary was 100 liras and the rent was 50 liras. We lived through those times in the 80s as well. We would like our citizens to find something to contribute to their family economy, to busy themselves, instead of just waiting for the state..." he said.
